Set Expectations for your campers and fellow Youth Leaders Campers - Ask that respect be given to other groups and the camps associates with whom they are sharing the camp. - Ensure that you have expectations for their behavior as well. Youth Leaders - Have one leader in each dorm room with your campers. Our recommendation is one Youth Leader for every 10 campers. - Set expectations with your Youth Leaders as well. Ensure that they know that they should attend all sessions and participate in the activities with the campers. That they are assigned to a specific group of campers during your stay. Full understanding that they are responsible for the behavior of the group of campers that they are given, not the staff or associates of MCYC. Create the Right Environment - What do you want your group to get out of the weekend? Know what you want to get out of the weekend. - Are your leaders going to be with the campers at all times? Eat with them. Ask good questions. Prepare your new youth leaders with what to expect, (not a lot of sleep!), what questions the kids might ask. Let them know about the campers that they will have in their groups. Questions, questions, questions - Ask a lot of them. Not just of us (810-664-8040 or programs@mcyc.org, but of your fellow youth leaders and campers. Not just before, but during. - Have a youth leaders meeting before you come, get their questions, call us (810-664-8040) or e-mail us (programs@mcyc.org). The more you do before, the better time you will have at camp. - While you are here, don’t be worried about your questions. We will do whatever we can to help you have a great and hassle free weekend with your group. Just ask!! Click here to go back to Winter Camp home page
