A JOB WITH A PURPOSE
Camp is a ministry. We set out to show love by serving others and share the good news of Christ to all that come and spend their summers and weekends with us. It also has an impact on those that are serving. It can be a time to find out who you are and whose you are. In the calling of Abram God told him to "get thee out" (Gen 12:1 KJV).  We challenge you to get out of your comfort zone and join us in camp ministry.  Serving at camp will help you become aware of your rescue and help you find answers to questions in the most unlikely places. Come to camp. Ask questions. Pause and hear your own name being beckoned by the voice of God.

Join Our Summer Staff

Each year we hire a team of about 30 college students to join us in our ministry. It will be a summer that will change your life! Not only will you be impacting campers lives, but you will have a chance to form life long relationships with other summer staff. MCYC is about 90 minutes north of Detroit.

Pay Scale
Starting pay is $350 per week plus room and board during the term of employment.  Leadership positions start at $425.  Each returning staff member gets an additional $25 for each year that they have worked at camp.  For example, if you have worked two summers and this is your third you would make $400 per week.  A maximum cap may apply to your position.

Dates of Employment
  • Leadership Positions will need to be available from June 3 - July 27, 2024.
  • All other summer staff will work from June 9 - July 27, 2024.
  • Time off must be requested prior to employment.
  • There are times when camper numbers are low that we will reduce our staffing levels accordingly.  This would be an unpaid week off.
Frequently Asked Questions
  • What does a day of work look like at MCYC?
    • Work starts after our daily staff Bible class.  Every area is a bit different but usually from 10 a.m. to lunch and then 2 p.m. to dinner.  After dinner we have chapel, evening activity, then campfire.  We encourage you to participate in as much as you want.  A workday is usually about 7 - 8 hours plus activities, Bible class, and chapel.
  • Can I bring my computer or tablet?
    • No.  In order to do our best work to glorify God we ask that you leave all your media at home so as not to be distracted by the outside influence of the world.
  • Am I allowed to use my phone at camp?
    • We do not allow staff to carry their phones unless they are over 18.  Under 18 we ask that phones are put in the camp office through the day.  Should you need it or need to contact someone just come get it.  There is a strict no-use policy while around campers.
  • What days do I get off?
    • All staff are dismissed after a staff meeting on Friday after the last camper is picked up (generally around 5/5:30 p.m.)  You are off until Sunday afternoon at 1:30 p.m.
  • Do I get time off during the week of camp?
    • Yes.  We ask that you regulate your time with your department supervisor.  A good rule of thumb is to try and relax for 60 - 90 minutes throughout each day.  Again, this is different for everyone and also how you regenerate is different for everyone.  Make sure to talk to us for more information.
  • I don't attend a church.  Can I still work at MCYC?
    • Yes.  Not all our positions require that you attend church.  However, many do require a faith background.  And you will still be required to attend staff Bible class, chapel, and other spiritual growth opportunities throughout the week or summer.
How to Apply and Important Dates
  1. You must be 16 or older by June 1 of the current year in order to be on our paid summer staff.  If you are not 16, please contact the camp to learn more about other options.
  2. Applications are due by March 1 to guarantee consideration for a summer position (hiring starts on January 1, 2024).  Applicants are welcome to apply through June 1st; however, positions may already be filled by that time.
  3. Applications must be completed using our application form available on our website.
  4. Our dates of employment are slightly different for each position (see list to the right).  We highly encourage everyone to spend the weekends at camp and develop relationships with those you will be doing ministry with through the summer.
  5. A complete application must be accompanied by three references. References will be checked prior to the interview process starting.  References CANNOT be relatives.
